My Ph.D.-project is entitled Fantastic Strategies in Religious Narrativity: The Fantastic in the Exodus Narrative . It aims to apply contemporary theories of the fantastic from literary criticism to Hebrew Bible texts. This is done for the purpose of discussing similarities and differences between religious and fantastic literature, and in order to explore the question of the specificity of religious literature - including the normative or prescriptive quality that such literature may possess. A minor investigation carried out in addition to the Ph.D.-project examines the use of Biblical (esp. Hebrew Bible) motifs in contemporary fantasy literature, the case study being Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.
